Alzheimer’s is a fairly common disease in the United States affecting approximately 5.1 million Americans. There are many ways to help fight this disease including donating to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. Another way to help is to volunteer with a chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association as Wellness Advocate, Mary Gauldin, has done. She started volunteering when her grandfather was diagnosed with the disease and has worked to “provide a better quality of life for those living with this devastating disease.” What a wonderful cause to be a part of! PITT HOPKINS SYNDROME
Pitt Hopkins Syndrome
I love hearing stories about other helping those who cannot help themselves! This one is such a touching story as it is about a mother, Maia Ginnelly, volunteering for a foundation that works to find new treatments, medicines, and eventually a cure for Pitt Hopkins syndrome, a genetic disorder her son was diagnosed with. Maia gives her time, energy, and talents to help raise money and awareness for this foundation in hopes of helping her son live a more comfortable life and helping future generations have healthier, higher functioning lives. DONATE TIME TO COMMUNITY
Although she stays busy by working full time, and as a wife, mother of three, and doTERRA Wellness Advocate, she cherishes opportunities to volunteer in her free time. Whether she is helping a friend with cancer or visiting someone in the hospital, she is constantly looking for ways to serve others. Currently, she volunteers with the High Desert Hospice Agency in Victorville, California.
CHRONIC PAIN SUPPORT
Illnesses are never fun to go through, especially alone. Invisible illnesses are even harder to work through without support from friends, family, or community members. That is why Tracy Strand, a dōTERRA Wellness Advocate, created a support group in her home town to help those struggling with illnesses of depression and chronic pain like she was. She worked with her church to create a safe space for these women in her community to cultivate faith and hope for these women living with their invisible illnesses. If you know someone struggling with these kinds of illnesses, reach out to them. Tell them you love them, offer to listen or to just be with them. Even the smallest acts of kindness could make a difference. You can read Tracy’s inspiring story here: https://doterra.com/US/en/
WELLNESS ADVOCATE OUTREACH
I love hearing stories of the outreach of Wellness Advocates in communities across the country! dōTERRA provided this amazing story about Jennifer Thomas who volunteers her time at a local hospital and hospice center in order to bring comfort and care to the patients in a way that the doctors and nurses don’t always have time to give. I had the chance a couple of years ago to volunteer in a similar way at the hospital in my own town. It was such a wonderful experience to help the hospital in my small way by ensuring the linens were stocked and help in the turnover of a room to make sure the next patient was as comfortable as possible in a potentially scary situation. Since that time, I haven’t been able to volunteer in that way but this story is making me feel inspired to reach out and help my community in some way. What are some ways you have found you can contribute to your community? Leave a comment down below and enjoy the story! Hopefully, you feel as inspired by it as I do! https://doterra.com/US/en/about/caring-jennifer-thomas
Serving is one of my favorite ways to get out of the house, which is why I love hearing stories about how other people find ways to serve their communities. Patti Stevens is a great example of using her knowledge of health and wellness to positively benefit the emotional wellbeing of women who have struggled with addictions or abuse. The WestCare Foundation Facility in Las Vegas allows Patti to teach classes that “help women improve their health, find focus, and re-center their lives.” How have you found a good way to use your knowledge of wellness to help those in your community? https://doterra.com/US/en/
Essential Oil Education Basics
WHAT IS AN ESSENTIAL OIL?
What is an Essential Oil?
If you have ever enjoyed the scent of a rose, you’ve experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils. These naturally occurring, volatile aromatic compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They can be both beautifully and powerfully fragrant. Essential oils give plants their distinctive smells, essential oils protect plants and play a role in plant pollination. In addition to their intrinsic benefits to plants and their beautiful fragrance, essential oils have long been used for food preparation, beauty treatment, and health-care practices. Learn More…
WHAT IS CTPG?
CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® Quality Testing
The purity of an essential oil is its most important characteristic. An essential oil that isn’t pure means you run the risk of putting germs, heavy metals, or adulterants onto or into your body, which can provoke irritation, adverse effects, or even sickness. Without an accepted standard for essential oil quality, doTERRA created its own testing process, calling it CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®. The CPTG process certifies that there are no added fillers, synthetic ingredients, or harmful contaminants in their essential oils that would reduce their efficacy. doTERRA even goes a step further, putting all their products and the packaging through a battery of tests to ensure a long and effective shelf-life. This protocol ensures potency, purity, and consistency batch to batch. Learn More…
ASK DR. HILL
SPRING & SUMMER STRUGGLES
My whole life I have had a struggle in the spring and summer months and I know I am not the only one that experiences these issues. When I was a kid, I had to get help to manage the symptoms that would make me so miserable while trees were blooming and especially when I was around freshly cut grass. Five years ago, my wife and I were invited to attend a dōTERRA essential oils class taught by my sister-in-law. I agreed to go, but was quite skeptical and did not think the oils would help me at all. During the class, my sister-in-law asked if anyone was struggling with the changing of the seasons. Since that was something I had trouble with, I raised my hand and she asked me to try the oils. Still skeptical, I held out my hand as she dropped lavender, lemon, and peppermint onto it. I rubbed my hands together, cupped them over my face, and breathed in. While I was not instantly convinced, I could feel a difference. Something was happening with my eyes and my nose and I felt great.
Ever since that day, I have kept sample vials of those three oils with me at all times. There are still weeks in the summertime that I need extra support. One of my favorite times to use this combination aromatically is right before I mow the lawn to keep me protected against the effects grass can have on my immune system. I also enjoy using these oils for their additional benefits: lavender makes me happy, peppermint helps me feel energized, and lemon keeps me clear and aware.
Our next story is an entertaining one:
I was working outside one day and I noticed that the cracks in my driveway had been overtaken by ants. There were thousands of them! In my rush to resolve this problem in the quickest possible manner, I decided fire was my best option. A few hours later I returned to inspect the ant colony only to find they were still there. Honestly, I was frustrated but also impressed. Maybe we could learn to co-exist. I would control the boundaries from the basketball hoop to the eastern gate, and the ants would control the western boundaries ending at the sidewalk. As I searched for paper and pen to draft new property boundaries I stumbled across a bottle of Peppermint. I recalled my essential oil training and how Peppermint can be used as a safe and effective bug repellent. I liberally dropped the oil in the cracks and all around where the ants were to see if that would do anything. When I came back to it later, the ants were gone.

DAYS FOR GIRLS
A: The Days for Girls mission is “Every Girl. Everywhere. Period.” That goal is truly having a global impact. We get to see videos from some of the girls who have received our kits. Their stories about how they are able to stay in school and that they are no longer embarrassed are amazing to hear.
Q: What are you currently working on in the Days for Girls Guatemala chapter?
A: We now have Managers, directors, and 10 seamstresses working in our Guatemala facility creating the kits! We have been able to teach local women how to make the kits, which opens employment opportunities. This is a big deal because most of these women working for us never went to school and are illiterate, but can still have a job and get paid. We are always looking for ways to have a bigger reach in the Guatemalan communities and ways to make producing the kits cheaper. We have plans to purchase two machines that will be able to make the underwear we include in the kits. Being able to make them ourselves will be decrease the cost by two or three times and eliminate the need to purchase from a third party.
Q: Do you have any personal stories about dropping off the kits?
A: During my trip we handed out close to 500 kits to schools. At one of the schools, we asked the teacher what the girls normally do during their periods and the response was that most of them don’t even have underwear to help them. Most of them wear long dark skirts if they even come to school so that if they leak on the chairs, they can discreetly wipe it up without anyone noticing. This was so eye opening for me and made me so grateful that this organization was making such a difference in the world.
If you would like to know more information on this organization, read stories about Days for Girls, or to find out how you can volunteer your time to help this wonderful cause, check out our page about it here: https://doterra.com/US/en/humanitarian-additional-projects-days-for-girls-hygiene.
